About
ARISE is an academic program in The Grainger College of Engineering serving a select population of students. We provide support to students from low-resourced or low-access backgrounds who show incredible potential in engineering. Our program focuses on academic support, community building, and dedicated mentorship. The program supports students through their entire college career.
Why did I get an admission for ARISE instead of Grainger Engineering?
Your admission letter is to The Grainger College of Engineering on the condition you participate fully in the ARISE Program. By accepting, you'll be fully enrolled as an engineering student in the ARISE program and The Grainger College of Engineering. We feel you'll be successful with our support.
Program Eligibility
Only students who received an admissions letter to ARISE are eligible for the program. Admissions into the program means you are likely an Illinois resident with one or more of the following attributes:
- Are first generation
- Applied with a financial fee waiver
- Attended a small or rural high school
- Attended a low-resourced school
About the "Redshirt" name...
In college athletics, redshirt athletes take their first year to train and develop new skills while still being part of the team. During this preparation period, athletes enhance their skills while transitioning from high school to college allowing them to set a strong foundation.
In ARISE, students will use their first year to "learn the ropes" to engineering with extra support while fully being enrolled in The Grainger College of Engineering and making progress toward an engineering degree.
